CURRENT 5 BIGGEST SMARTPHONE COMPANIES IN THE WORLD
The worldwide smartphone market witnessed over 20% decline year-on-year during the second quarter of 2020, according to the latest report from research firm Gartner. The report claims that shipments dropped about 295 million due to the negative impact of coronavirus pandemic on smartphone sales.
“Almost all major markets, except China, continued to face some form of shelter-in-place restrictions for most of the second quarter of 2020 which led to continued declining demands of smartphones,” says the report.
All companies in the top five list witnessed a negative growth in their annual performance. Here's below are the five biggest smartphone companies in the world :
1. SAMSUNG
South Korean's greatest Tech Brand captured 18.6% market share during the second quarter of 2020. The company shipped about 55 million handsets in the quarter, after a 27% decline.
2. HUAWEI
The second one is Huawei with 54.1 million units shipments in 2nd Quarter of 2020. The Chinese company held 18.4% approx market share during the quarter. The company shipped about 18.4 million handsets and declined 7% year-on-year.
“Huawei’s performance in China helped it avoid a bad quarterly performance,” said Anshul Gupta, senior research director at Gartner. “Huawei extended its lead in China where it captured 43% of China’s smartphone market in the second quarter of 2020. Huawei put in place an aggressive product introduction and sales promotion in China in particular and benefited from the strong support of communications services providers for its 5G smartphones,” he also added.
3. Apple
At third spot it is the America's Apple. This company sold 38 million iPhones during the second quarter of 2020, witnessing a decline of 0.4% year-over-year. “Apple’s iPhone sales far better in the quarter than most smartphone vendors in the market and also grew sales quarter-over-quarter,” said Annette Zimmermann, research vice president at Gartner. “The improved business environment in China helped Apple achieving growth in the country. In addition, the introduction of the new iPhone SE encouraged users of older Devices to upgrade their smartphones.”
4. XiaoMI
With 26 million shipments worldwide, Xiaomi stood at the fourth position. The company held 9% marketshare, witnessing an year-on-year decline of 21.5%.
5. OPPO
The No. 5 competitor is Oppo, the company that saw a decline of 16% during the quarter vis-a-vis the same quarter last year. The company shipped 2.3 million handsets in the quarter, accounting for 8% marketshare.
