OKINAWA CRUISER ELECTRIC MAXI SCOOTER LAUNCHING IN THE YEAR 2021
Okinawa unveiled the prototype of its first electric maxi-scooter, the Okinawa Cruiser, which it said is the first of its kind India at the Auto Expo 2020. Right before the restart of operations in May, the company confirmed to EVW citing the pandemic that the launch of the Cruiser was postponed from around August to early next year, Today we can confirm that the scooter is on track to meet its revised launch date.
Jeetendra Sharma, the Founder & Managing Director of Okinawa Scooters, told EVW at the Auto Expo that the scooter would be manufactured at its existing facility in Rajasthan. The company plans to increase dealerships from 350 outlets to 500 outlets focusing on states like Assam, Bihar and Maharashtra.

The Cruiser gets a detachable, 4 kWh Lithium-ion battery that can be charged completely in 2-3 hrs., and returns a range of about 120 km in a single charge. The maxi e-scooter, with a hub-mounted motor, has a top speed of 100 km/h, making it one of the fastest e-scooters in the country. It has a loading capacity of 150 kg.

The Cruiser is expected to become Okinawa’s most expensive product with a price north of Rs. 80,000.

OKINAWA SELLS 1000 ELECKTRIC SCOOTERS WITHIN A MONTH OF RESUMING OPERATIONS
After resuming partial operations, Okinawa has announced that it has sold over 1000 scooters within a month of the lockdown relaxations.
Okinawa has achieved this number with only 60 to 70 per cent out of its over 350 touchpoints being operational across India. After resuming operations on May 11 with 25 per cent workforce and strict safety measures, the company has already dispatched over 1200 vehicles within the first month. Okinawa is the only EV company to cross 10,000 units in India in sales of the high-speed scooter segment in FY2020.
Mr. Jeetendra Sharma – MD, Okinawa has said that with the increasing awareness around the economic benefits of EVs, there might be a sharp inclination towards EVs and the company is anticipating a good demand for new vehicles for personal mobility due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
